Amended Plans Bring Hotel Closer to Fruition
Local developer Mr David Nock is pushing forward with the Byng Street Hotel after drawing up amended plans to address the key concerns of nearby residents and business owners.
Mr Nock has held a vision for the burgeoning accommodation and tourism sector in Orange saving the well-known residence, 62 Byng Street, from ruin in 2014.
“We sought the advice of Council in early 2015 over the planning requirement and received a great deal of help from the staff and Council’s advisors,” Mr Nock said.
He explained, “We invested an enormous amount of money and time ensuring the proposed boutique hotel would be a welcome addition to the Orange accommodation industry, a good use of the space, and financially viable.”
With the initial application approved by Council staff, but rejected by the Councillors, Mr Nock was prepared to enter into mediation with Council to ensure the plans were able to satisfy community concerns.
“The compromise we prepared was substantial, and we genuinely want to resolve the issues raised,” Mr Nock said.
“We’re passionate about working with community on this project because we know in time it will become a valuable part of Orange’s landscape and economic future within the tourism sector.”
The changes included reducing the number of rooms by six, redesigning the roofline so as to break up the building into three sections, and changing the exit so that the vehicles did not leave via Hill Street.
The amended plans will be advertised for community comment on Wednesday 1st February.
“We welcome any community feedback on the new plans of what will be Orange’s most premium accommodation for high end tourism and we look forward to being part of the economic progression of this fantastic city.”
